CIVSEC FORUM

The CIVSEC Industry Workshop and Forum was held at Hotel Realm in Canberra, Monday 24th July 2017.

A number of experts and industry leaders in protecting Australia's national security came together last month at the inaugural CIVSEC Industry Workshop and Forum.

Held in Canberra, over 100 government, industry and academic delegates attended this valuable event designed to assist in engagement with the civil security sector.

The workshop provided insight for Australian industry representatives on how to engage with key security bodies in Australia, with speaker representatives including: Australian Federal Police, Australian Cyber Security Growth Network, Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Australian Civil-Military Centre and the National Security Science & Technology Centre.

The forum gave insight into the key issues plaguing security bodies both in Australia and Internationally with moderator Associate Professor Nick O'Brien from Charles Sturt University chairing a panel of experts as they provided insight from each of their speciality fields.

The CIVSEC Industry Workshop and Forum was a prelude to the CIVSEC 2018 Congress and Exposition to be held in Melbourne in May next year.

Industry Workshop speakers included:

  • Dr Alan Ryan, Executive Director, Australian Civil-Military Centre
  • Mike Bareja, Program Manager, National Network Australian Cyber Security Growth Network
  • Michael Milford, First Assistant Secretary, Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP)
  • Katerina Agostino, National Security Science & Technology Centre, Defence Science and Technology Group.
